I finally found a little time to spend in my craftroom creating this weekend. My copy of Handmade Cards from Paper Crafts Magazine arrived and the cards in there really blew me away. There are some seriously inspiring cards in there! One was a washi tape card from Vera Wirianta Yates on page 52. She covered a panel of paper with washi tape at various angles and then cut it into three panels. Her card is bright with fun colored washi tape on a white background. I had to try it and went with my neutral washi tapes in blacks & grays against a vibrant card base.
This second card is ultra simple on a richly textured card base. The houses are paper pieced with scraps from my PB&J Basic Grey mat pack. The thin blue outline inside the box helps this pop from the rest of the card a bit.
I'll admit it, I have an obsession with veneer. One set I bought because I couldn't resist is these houses. I wasn't sure what to do with them besides a house warming card but I only know so many people moving. That doesn't account for the 36 veneers I have! The Handmade Cards challenge for wood, metal, and cork over at Fab Moxie World is another great excuse to go crazy with veneer. This is my second card for the CAS(E) this Sketch challenge #46.

I wanted to feature two applications for veneer in one card. The sentiment banner is left naked and embellished with a gold rub on. The houses are coated in Papaya pigment ink from A Muse Studio. The pigment ink application is so fun because you just squish it into the ink pad. The only downside is you have to wait at least 30 minutes for it to dry before you add it to your project.
I was really taken with this week's CAS(E) this Sketch and created two cards for it. The first one I made leaves the center element empty but fills the card base. I masked the the center section with a post it
and covered the card base with blooms for a bold look. The sentiment is a golden rub on from Pebbles which is embellished with a button and bakers twine.

It's been awhile since I've played in the Fab Moxie challenge and this weeks image is an intriguing one. I like the challenge of taking something that is clearly a digital creation and then transforming it into something with another medium. This was the perfect job for one of the first Stampin' Up! sets I bought way back in 2003. It hasn't been used much since but basic shapes don't go out of style.

I first inked with the lighter color ink and then stamped on the darker from the other side. I wasn't concerned about getting a true ombre effect but if you are, a quick fine mist of water over the inked surface before stamping will do the trick. I finished it off with this fun and bold golden rub on from Pebbles. After all, there's supposed to be gold at the end of the rainbow! The card size is cut to 3 1/2 x 5 1/2.

Thanks so much for the visit and I hope you play along too!SeattleStamperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17116629105325483541noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-999674545635372438.post-86114648762628033602013-09-09T20:31:00.000-07:002013-09-09T20:31:19.053-07:00Project Life ContinuedAs I mentioned in my previous post about Project Life, I started experimenting with using the concept to scrap events instead of weekly summaries. The small pockets make a lot of sense when you might have just 2-3 photos for a given week but I needed to figure out how to make some of the page layouts from my variety pack work for my needs. I can't just let them sit there! Here is the same layout done two different ways.

This is a bunch of photos from a family reunion. I packed in a lot of shots in just one page while still using 3 filler cards. The card on the bottom row was stamped with the camera and sentiment to customize.

The above layout from an Oktoberfest getaway had photos that couldn't be cropped down much. I just cut the photo and placed them in adjoining pockets. It works really well for almost all of them. The cardboard cutout of the St. Pauli girl did have her face sliced in half...oooops! There's still a poster of her in my husbands bar if we ever need to reference her face.SeattleStamperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17116629105325483541noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-999674545635372438.post-52008682063051142462013-09-08T09:23:00.001-07:002013-09-08T09:24:00.206-07:00Project Life Review

I've been interested in the Project Life concept for a few years and love what Ali Edwards does with it so I took the plunge and started with ordering a set of the page protectors in a variety pack. Since I've really only seen samples of people scrapping the weekly events like it's intended I thought that is how I'd use it. To commit to that you need to be really good about documenting and actually printing your photos. I don't fall into that category of people. I had the supplies and I wanted to start so I used an event from last fall as my virgin page.

For this layout I rounded all the corners, created my own filler sections with scrap paper, and embellished with washi tape & thickers. It was fun and took a fraction of the time it usually took me to create a traditional layout. I liked it but was still thinking I needed to follow the weekly collection of photos mantra to make it work.

All that changed when I received a free sample Project Life kit with my Studio Calico card kit. It was a small sampling of the cards to insert and since I had them...why not use them? I started with some photos I've been meaning to scrap for 3+ years. Our trip to Holland and Belgium. I had stacks of photos to deal with and it was daunting. No problem! I just started sliding those puppies into the layout and journaling on the cards with a little embellishing along the way. I finished a good representation of our trip in about 8 page protectors in less than 2 hours. Woah!

I had firmly been against buying the filler cards for Project Life because I need more paper like I need to gain 10 pounds. But I was torn because now I've seen how much faster I can go with them and how much more likely I am to do it if I have the cards. 40% off the kits was all I needed to buy my first two filler sets and I've now scraped over 30 pages. It feels great have my memories out of a box and in a book. The new format allows me to enjoy the memories and not focus on the embellishments and layout. I'm a fan and over having to conform to it's original intent. The Muse challenge card by Laurie Willison layout reminds me of an envelope. I used the same basic layout and struggled for a while on how and how much to fill the white space. I settled on an oldie but goodie sentiment stamp from A Muse Studio that my stamping friend Amy reminded me I owned this morning. I paired that with patterned paper and the bee stamp from my Studio Calico Card Kit.
My little brother is turning 30 today. I wanted to share the card a made for him. It features wood grain numbers and camera washi tape because he's a master at wood carving and photography.

Now is my chance to brag a little on my youngest brother. As an artist myself I have an enormous amount of respect that he has followed his heart and pursued art as his passion. He is working on supporting himself on his own pieces this year instead of supplementing his income by working for other artists. He sells hand made wooden rings that are beautiful - check them out here. He blends his photography skills in the video he made below about the process of making the rings.
I'm playing along in two challenges on this sunny Seattle Sunday. I've based my sketch off the CAS(E) this Sketch challenge which inspired me to use the long and narrow bottle image. I've been thinking about how to execute this sketch for a few days in once I read the CAS Sunday challenge about getting floral it came to me...flowers!
I stamped the bottle image on glassine paper and let it dry for 24 hours then cut it out. I really like the subtle color change in the blossoms that are behind it. The flower base is stamped in Barely Banana and the centers are Summer Sun from Stampin' Up!. After getting the sentiment banner on there it still seemed naked so I added a few enamel dots for a little something special. Thanks so much for looking!
My Studio Calico card kit for August arrived this week and I've been dying for a night in my craftroom to play with it. I think it's my favorite so far which is not what I expected at all. When I saw the preview of the images I had a hard time thinking about how to use them but all I needed was a little time to sit and play to fall in love. I chose to play along in the Muse challenge #30 because I was really inspired by the saturated colors and spritzed appearance. The pink printed paper from my kit was perfect! I then stamped the stars for some color contrast.

I couldn't stop at just one card with the kit so I created a tag that is not part of the challenge but I'll share anyway :)

This has the black & white washi tape I'm obsessed with along with monochromatic stamping and enamel dots. The sentiment banner is my pop of color for this simple but elegant and trendy tag.
This is one of my favorite cards I've made in a while. The colors and elements just make me happy. I created a little scene in the polaroid by making a sunset with copic markers and then stamped the trees and birds. I stamped the card base with the sunburst image and covered it with a sheet of glassline paper. I like it here in this application because it holds a bit of shine where vellum doesn't but it still has the same beautiful sheer qualities.
Here's a bright and cheerful card to share with all my friends in the blogosphere. I loved the unexpected color combo in this patterned paper and used it throughout the card. All supplies (except ink) were from my July Studio Calico Card Kit. I think I'll just have to pop this little card in the mail and hope it brightens a friends day.SeattleStamperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17116629105325483541noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-999674545635372438.post-48750969650178610922013-07-24T20:51:00.002-07:002013-07-24T20:51:36.445-07:00Muse #27

Here is a quick card I made for the Muse Challenge. I loved the simplicity for this weeks card by Tracey, in fact I think it's perfect. I challenged myself to change it up a bit and added a layer but I honestly like the original version better. For my added something special I attached some enamel dots by My Minds Eye since they are one of my favorite embellishments to use lately. Thanks so much for the visit!
I wanted to share two of my favorite cards made from my Studio Calico June card kit supplies. I've been on a more masculine trend lately and I'm liking it. The kit got me experimenting in very graphic styles and a color pallet I wouldn't normally use.

I tried to mimic a globe with the card below by blending green and blue copics over the sentiment image. After I had it cut out I added the fun veneer over the top which touches just the edges. I think it will make a great card to give to my husband or brother.
I had an unexpected overhaul of my craft room this weekend when I came across a new work station at Costco. If you see something at Costco you like, you better buy it because it may never be there again. This meant almost all my plans for the weekend were tossed and I was deep in a full overhaul of my craftroom. The new desk offers a TON more storage in ways that are for the most part much more practical in how I use my space than my previous desk.

I'm still getting used to a counter height workspace but I think I'll like it eventually. One thing I love is the depth of the workspace so I can spread out. The work surface is also a huge upgrade as my previous desk had give. Since I'm primarily a stamper this new surface is going to help prevent mistakes on my projects.

My old desk was modular which allowed me to reconfigure it into a stack behind my station. This makes the lack of drawers on the new desk a non issue.
The underside of the desk has shelves that are a bit hard to reach because I set it up next to the wall. This turned out to be a great place to keep completed albums and use for photo storage.

This card is for you, yes YOU. To all those who take the time to visit my blog and especially when you choose to leave me a little love...this card is for you! Your visit makes me quite happy. To announce the winner of my Unity Stamp give away I wanted to share a card I made with some of the mistakenly sent to me stamps I decided to keep. All these images are from the June 2013 SMAK kit - Epic Moments.
I've outlined the clouds with some silver glitter pen for a bit 'o shine. I wanted to share how I did the sun as well. I've been longing for an image like this I could stamp and paper piece but I don't have one. Instead I just used a 2" circle punched piece of paper and hand cut "rays" from it. I then spaced them as desired on the back of the yellow button and then you have a pretty cool sun all done by hand!
This is my first time playing with the Runway Inspired Challenge blog and I'm just thrilled I've timed it with Stella McCartney as the inspiration. I work for a high end fashion retailer so I draw a lot of inspiration from fashion, and lust for the fashion itself. Infact I've had my eye on a Stella McCartney bag for a while now but a $2K bag won't be making it into my closet anytime soon. Imagine all the stamping goodies I could buy with that kind of cash!
I loved the white space on this look and the colors. The interesting thing to me was the random items on the skirt. It makes you want to stop and inspect. I used telephones from Hero Arts for my "random" images which are paired with a brand spankin' new speech bubble set that arrived today from Studio Calico.

Thanks for the visit! I recently ordered some new images from Unity Stamp Company and there was a bit of a mix up when my new rubber arrived. My order had been swapped with someone elses and I ended up with several sets I had considered but decided against ordering. Being that Unity is the awesome company they are, I was told to keep the stamps and my real order would be on it's way.

I'd love to surprise and delight someone else with some new images to pass on the love. I'll mail two brand new Unity sets - "Gossip, hot-flashes, and crazy", Ah Crap, and a handful of other images to anywhere in the US. If you would like these stamps just leave me a comment and I'll use random.com to select a winner on 7/19.SeattleStamperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17116629105325483541noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-999674545635372438.post-54996543148430614462013-07-06T14:46:00.000-07:002013-07-06T14:46:29.584-07:00First Fusion

I've wanted to play along in the Fusion challenge for months but just seem to keep missing the deadline. Today I found some time and I'm happy with the results. I mostly followed the sketch portion of the challenge since I couldn't seem to find mojo with a stacked image like the card on the right. I've been pushing myself to use up the June Card Kit from Studio Calico since a new kit is on it's way and all the paper you see is from that.
There has been a heat wave going on this weekend so you could say I was inspired with my theme. I don't know how hot it actually is but my thermostat says it's 81 in our house which is WAY too hot for this Seattle native.

I went for an Ombre effect with the rings of Studio Calico veneer by using my copics on them. I indulged myself by signing up for their monthly card kit which should arrive tomorrow. I just made a pact with myself to use all that stuff up so I started early and threw 4 veneers on one card :) The sentiment is from Savvy Stamps and the washi is by Queen and Co.

It's a super sunny day here in Seattle and I thought I'd share a fun card using my favorite trendy elements - Washi Tape, Wood Veneer, and Enamel dots. Super simple yet fun and cheerful with interesting textures and patterns.

Washi tape from Queen & Co., Studio Calico veneers, My Minds Eye Enamel dots, Sentiment and paper from Papertrey Ink.
I'm really working to clean up my crafting supplies this year and I'm taking a use it or lose it approach. One of my obsessions is the mini mat packs, Cosmo Cricket and Basic Grey being my biggest downfalls. I've had some of these sitting around for 4-5 years...no joke. I set out to use them up because there will never be a shortage of new papers I want to buy and before I allow myself to do that I need to clear out some space from the current stock. Besides, it's cramping my washi tape storage and who couldn't use more rolls of that? The Mixy-Matchy Challenge over at Fab Moxie world really inspired me to bust these out and USE that paper!

Mixing and matching papers from these is a no brainer. What better way to use them up than showcase a lot of the papers in one project. I decided to spice it up with some new enamel dots. I started by creating a pattern on scrap paper then cutting each piece out. Stamping over the papers makes the effect seem like it was meant to go together in that way.

I'm playing along with Muse Challenge #21 and you can view the Muse card down below. The way Therese stamped the patterned paper hit me first. Killer look and so simple...why don't I do this more often?! I also was reminded of all those dew drops I have sitting around my craftroom I used SO sparingly back when I bought them (oh, about 4 years ago!). Her card is awesome! I just had to play along. I used the same paper as her from the PB & J mat pack from Basic Grey.

My own flair was the folded banner and I thought it was pretty genius to line the inside of the banner with the same patterned paper but turns out it's a bit hard to see. Next time I'll nail it by making sure my background is a bit less busy.
I had so many scraps left over from my last card I couldn't pass up the chance to create another card today. This is around the theme of handmade embellishments which is the star of my card. I started with a metal edged tag with velum because didn't want the element to completely cover all those carefully placed hexagons! Then I added the twine and looked though my paper scraps within the mat pack for things to cut out. I found a sentiment banner and two flowers. After adding them to the tag I personalized a bit more with liquid pearls and a threaded button. It might look fussy because the card is so full of scraps but it's a great way to use them up and was actually fast and easy to make!
For the stitching challenge over at Let's Get Trendy I wanted to make something that resembled a quilt. I put my die to double use by making it my template and using the pieces. I first laid the negative die over the paper and used a paper piercing tool to mark my stitching points. Once I had threaded the paper I filled in the openings with the die cuts to make the "quilt". The over all look of the effect was cozy to me so I wanted to make it a Get Well card to bring someone comfort.
