Sponged Birthday Card

Today Faith was honored as the Featured Stamper on SCS. I've been an admirer of her work for a long long time and was THRILLED when I found out she recently joined a swap group I'm in (I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy). Often her designs scare me off when it comes to casing because of their extreem layers and high detail. I also don't think she owns a flower that she hasn't cut out. I just oogle her work in awe!

I cased this cuttlebug background from her. It was amazingly easy and has stunning results. I just ran a white piece of cardstock through the bug and then swished on Groovey Guava & Celery ink with sponges and there you go, instant colorful background.

For the main image I stamped it in the Guava and pulled the ink off the cake stand with a Q-Tip so I could use my marker for the celery. The "flame" of the candles is given a shine with Sakura Glaze pen in Yellow.

Here's yet another example of how a mistake turns into something good. I trimed the Celery piece for the cake too long while I was allowing the glaze to dry and was left with extra room above and below the white piece. I'd already attached it to the Guava so I pulled out the Paper Piercing template and my Old Olive marker. Instead of piercing I just used the fine tip of my marker to make dots which look like little holes from a distance. I didn't stop there, oh no. The top of each layer was screaming for little dots of "frosting".

The ribbon at the bottom got a bit busy for my taste but I think it works. THis card is going to be sent to someone on the SCS RAK list who has the same birthday as me.

That is really pretty! I'll have to try this technique. I tried one yesterday sponging white craft over the top of cuttlebugged peach paper and it doesn't look so hot :( I love this look of sponging colors over white. NICE JOB!!
